FractureCode launches latest Handheld reader
Issue date: 03.12.07
FractureCode Corporation has launched its next generation proprietary handheld reader to provide users across a range of industries with fast and reliable verification of its innovative track and trace technology.
The portable reader is especially developed to work with FractureCode, a highly effective method for marking, identifying and tracing products at an individual item level for purposes of anti-counterfeiting and traceability. In a code window as small as 1mm2, the FractureCode features a series of lines that acts as a unique random “fingerprint”. While each code contains no data in itself, when linked to a database all interested parties across the supply chain – including product manufacturers, distributors, customs officials and retailers – can potentially obtain valuable information to verify that the pack is genuine, combined with supply chain information.
With the link to the database paramount, field reliability is essential and the remote reader must be easy for inspectors and other stakeholders to use in order to scan the mark for cross-reference with the database. A fast response time will aid investigation and audit strategies.
The new handheld reader offers the ideal mechanism to achieve this. Using a high quality CCD camera system for superior image quality, the reader scans the FractureCode to ensure exceptional reproduction of the code for verification. The operator connects to the secure database using a high speed USB 2 uplink or an optional remote GPRS module.
Crucially, FractureCode has controlled the development process from concept to final product. The technology is built and supported by the company’s embedded software engineers, who have provided expert input from initial concept to specifying components.
“By taking ownership of this project ourselves, we ensure that we produce a product that is absolutely tailored to FractureCode, with only relevant and useful features incorporated into the reader,” comments Jacob Götzsche Managing Director of FractureCode.
“We were keen not to use a standard off-the-shelf product as we did not want to inhibit our overall implementation or rely on specific electronics suppliers. Developing a proprietary system also protects us from obsolescence and provides scope for future-proofing” he adds.
Ease of use is a key aspect of the reader’s performance. Its robust, ergonomic design includes a full colour large screen (480X640 VGA) Graphic Used Interface, whilst intuitive touch screen controls provide simple, effective operation. Optimised battery life provides users with the confidence of long-term usage.
FractureCode says that the handheld reader is fully customisable, allowing it to be tailored to any given application or industry.
Further options include antenna configuration to suit different communication systems around the world and the sourcing of high quality components from reputable brands to meet more unusual bespoke applications.
“The new handheld reader is a powerful tool that allows us to meet customer demands and get the best out of FractureCode,” concludes Götzsche. “High speed scanning and data transfer allow customers to verify the integrity of products quickly and effectively.”
